Senior AdvisorMa'Aden New Business Development Dec 2008 - Jun 2015Saudi ArabiaMa’aden asked me in 2008 to join their Aluminium Project in a senior development role and we moved to Saudi Arabia where I led the Rolling Mill Project from the concept phase. This project was fast-tracked in July 2009 with financial close to be achieved by June 2010. Normally such a USD 2 billion project would require around 2.5 years to complete the engineering design phases. Utilising my extensive skills to identify and implement the path forward and tenacity to maintain focus, we developed a strong team which achieved what some considered an impossible target. In July 2010 Ma’aden moved me to their Riyadh office to lead the development of two new mine-to-metal mega-projects in base metals. Through my guidance our team is making good progress from concept through the study phases prescribed by the Stage Gate process. -
Operations ManagerMil Resources Jul 2005 - Dec 2008EgyptIn 2005 I joined Egyptian Magnesium, a subsidiary of MIL Resources in a Senior Management role to transfer development of a magnesium smelter from Australia to Sokhna on the Red Sea. Unfortunately we were unable to secure finance for this project and we closed the Cairo office in 2007 to return to Australia where I spent over one year with MIL endeavouring to develop the project in Qatar, Turkey or Saudi Arabia. Again funding proved difficult and in 2008 this project was put on hold.

Manager JkproductsJktech Pty Ltd Sep 1998 - Jun 2005Brisbane, AustraliaUniversity of Queensland invited me to join the JK Mineral Research Centre in 1998 to develop a new business activity to commercialise and market the outcomes of the JK’s PhD research projects. Funded by the international mining and metal industry, the JKMRC develops high technology solutions to industry specific problems and the outcomes are in high demand. This grew into a successful global enterprise and the foundations I laid over seven years were the catalyst for subsequent organic growth. In previous years I was in management, technical and operating positions at Amdel, Goliath Cement, Robe River Iron, Bougainville Copper and Nchanga Copper Mines. -
