About Peter Clark

Peter ClarkDirector - Monarto Safari Park, Zoos South AustraliaI began working with animals and zoos whilst working in Papua New Guinea. Initially engaged in the agricultural industry I became involved in the establishment of sustainable village based wildlife businesses (such as crocodile & butterfly farming), environmental education and the establishment of the Insect Farming and Trading Agency at Bulolo and the Rainforest Habitat in Lae. Returning to Australia in 2003 I took up a position with Zoos SA.Since then I have been heavily involved in project work at both Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park, most recently the design and development of a new 550ha safari and accommodation project, and the introduction of Asian elephants into the Park. The initial five elephants are coming to us from three city zoos where natural attrition has left them in less than ideal social situations. We hope that they will form a cohesive group, utilizing both their modern new facilities, and their choice of four large habitats (a total of about 40 acres).I serve on the IUCN’s Species Survival Commission, am a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society of London, a Wildlife Conservation Associate of the WCS (New York) and a Paul Harris Fellow (Rotary). Also ex Chairman of the Zoos and Aquarium Association Accreditation and Animal Welfare Committee. Amongst awards I have been fortunate to receive the Papua New Guinea Independence Medal (Conservation and Tourism) and a UNESCO Achievement Award (Conservation).Specialties: African mammals management in open range (zoological) situationsZoological project concept design and developmentAfrican rhinosPNG wildlife (especially Birds of Paradise and Tree kangaroos)Insect (butterfly) farmingWildlife tours (Southern Africa)

Listed skills include Environmental Education, Wildlife, Conservation Issues, Biodiversity, and 21 others.
