About Peter Coe
I am a consultant upper gastrointestinal surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and an honorary senior lecturer in surgery at the University of Leeds. My clinical interests are oesophageal and gastric cancer surgery, bariatric and anti-reflux surgery. I am passionate about teaching, mentoring, and collaborating with other surgeons, researchers, and students.In my current roles, I run a busy upper gastrointestinal surgery practice at St James' Hospital, where I perform minimally invasive surgery for various conditions, such as cancer, obesity, reflux, hernias, and gallstones. My research interests are in oesophageal and gastric cancer, obesity and cancer risk and gall stone disease. I have published multiple papers in peer-reviewed journals, and presented at national and international conferences. I also teach and supervise medical students and trainees, and participate in curriculum development and quality improvement initiatives. I am always eager to learn new skills, techniques, and technologies, and to apply them to my practice and research where there is benefit to patients.

Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon
CurrentAt St James' Hospital, part of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, I run a busy Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery practice. This involves three specialist areas; surgery for cancer of the oesophagus or stomach; surgery for obesity and the metabolic problems associated with this condition (often called bariatric surgery); surgery for benign disorders - heartburn (gastro-esophageal reflux), hiatus hernias, achalasia cardia, gallstones, and abdominal wall hernias (such as inguinal hernias). Most of these operations are approached using minimally invasive surgery (also called laparoscopic surgery or keyhole surgery).
