My role at Core Laboratories includes specialising in sedimentology (core logging), petrography (thin section description, photography, modal analysis and rock typing) and reservoir quality analysis. Main duties involve describing and summarising rock properties (lithology, diagenesis and pore types) to determine reservoir quality for selected intervals, before placing these descriptions within a sequence stratigraphic framework. Depositional environments are also identified for descriptions. Externally produced data (e.g. XRD, SEM, CL and isotopes) is integrated with petrography to generate more comprehensive geological datasets regarding reservoir quality. Regional projects have included the description of clastic and carbonate reservoirs from core, plug trims, SWC’s and cuttings, from basins across the West African Rift System (Cote D’Ivoire and Mozambique), pre-salt Brazil and onshore Romania. I have also logged Jurassic to Cretaceous conventional reservoirs, unconventional reservoirs and source rocks from Kuwait and Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., in the Middle East.I have conducted lectures and practical training in Petrography to several groups, including from Mozambique and Gabon.

My role as a Reservoir Geologist/petrographer involved the integration of sedimentology (core logging, cuttings analysis, plug description), petrography (thin-section analysis, photography and modal/point counting), SEM analysis, XRD data, biostratigraphy, geochemical data and rock-typing (analysing porosity/permeability relationships) to assess reservoir quality of clastic and carbonate reservoirs globally. Projects have included the assessment of reservoir quality from locations onshore Southern Iraq, Northern Libya and Northeast Pakistan, offshore South Korea, Angola, Qatar and China and the North Sea.

My role as a Carbonate Reservoir Geologist involved using sedimentology (core logging), petrography (thin section analysis, photography and modal/point counting), SEM analysis, cathodoluminescence analysis, wireline logs and rock-typing (analysing porosity/permeability relationships) to assess reservoir quality for multi-well (regional) projects. The aim was to enable future exploration and production from carbonate reservoirs of various depostional settings. In particular, my work predominantly involved several projects in Kuwait within the Carbonate Worldwide Team.
