I have worked two summers at Longview Fibre Paper and Packaging Inc. during which I have learned a great deal about using my engineering skills.

My second internship at Longview Fibre Paper and Packaging Inc. was even more productive than my first. This year I was able to hit the ground running since I had a good idea of how the company worked and knew the in and outs of the place. My main project that I worked on was an energy savings project. This project involved replacing a Fibrilizer with a pump which would consume far less power and get the same job done. For this project I completed an EnergySPICE proposal which will qualify this project for a 70% rebate of the total project cost. After the project was approved by both our company and the BPA I started on the layout of the new pump installation. I worked with contractors to get bids on the mechanical portion of this project and with the electrical engineers in house to do the electrical side of this project. I worked on a couple other large projects over the summer including; tank replacement bid, and washer line pump downsize. This internship was another great learning experience preparing me for my career in the engineering industry.

When I worked here I learned how to tear apart and rebuild parts of gas and diesel engines. I used various machines around the shop to repair and refinish various parts of engines. My main tasks were to clean parts, surface heads and flywheels, and help out wherever I was needed in the shop. This was great work experience because I learned how parts of the industry worked while learning the basics of machining and how engines are built. I learned how to identify and solve various problems that deal with working in a motor shop.When I worked at Northwest Motor I was a general helper around the shop. I did a little bit of everything. I did various tasks on the electric motors like: disassemble, clean, repair, re-bearing, assemble and paint, I did about all the tasks that involved rebuilding electric motors. Also while I worked there I did other various tasks like building shelves and putting in new lights. Towards the end of working there I helped them set up and start a powder coating business and learned how that process works as well.
