I've worked in IT since I sold my first computer program at age 14. My first role post-uni was with a subsidiary of Monotype and involved bespoke software development for the publishing industry, migrating newspaper and magazine production from hot metal into digital. The culture shock was significant on both sides; from old school journos and reporters I learned how to write, edit, handle the toughest of people and remain functional while drinking like Ernest Hemingway. Life skills are important.In the mid 1990's I moved into technical consultancy on new media, working in the EU and US on digital video and audio post, interactive media, digital network security and content delivery, technologies which are now coming to maturity. By the early 2000's I worked in systems design in the games sector, broadcast TV and global online gambling. I've worked with Axis Studios twice, during which time I have facilitated the studio growing from 8 artists in a business incubator (1999) to 400+ people across 3 locations (2021) with a global client base that includes Warner Brothers, Sony, Microsoft, Riot Games, Tencent , Amazon Studios, Netflix and more.My advice to 14 year old me would be to trust your instincts and when the 1990's come around do buy those shares in the company developing the ARM 610 rather than going snowboarding in Germany ;)
