About Peter E.T. Edwards, Phd.
PETER Has over twenty (25) years of academic training and professional experience in tropical ecology, environmental monitoring, coastal zone management and environmental consultancy. He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of the West Indies (Jamaica) in Zoology and Marine Sciences (respectively). He completed his PhD at the University of Delaware, in Marine Studies with a concentration in Marine Policy. His research was focused on the non-market economic valuation of coastal ecosystems using stated preference techniques.Dr Edwards is currently an Economist working Pew Charitable Trusts' Conservation Science Division. He will be working with a team that provides science needs for a variety of environmental projects the Pew is supporting. These research efforts will include a broad range of marine and terrestrial environmental science and policy interests and issues. Peter was formerly a consultant/federal contractor with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). He was most recently based in the National Ocean Service, and served as the Social Science Coordinator and Natural Resource Economist for the Coral Reef Conservation Program. Prior that period, worked for NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service.as the Natural Resource Economist for the Office of Habitat Conservation. His duties included estimating the local, regional, and national economic impacts and value of the habitat protection and restoration activities of the Habitat Office. He was responsible for leading the effort to monitor the economic impacts of federal expenditures on fifty (50) American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) habitat restoration projects which led to a number of peer reviewed publications. Dr. Edwards has also led a number of ecosystem valuation studies in Jamaica for various Organizations.

I hold a B.Sc. in Zoology as well as a Masters in Marine Sciences from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus (Jamaica). I also hold a PhD in Marine Studies (Marine Policy and Resource Economics concentration) from the University of Delaware. Prior to working at NOAA, I have over 15 years experience in private environmental consultancy and academia. This includes environmental management, coastal ecosystem monitoring and management and undergraduate teaching. More recently my work includes the identification and economic valuation of ecosystem services, survey development and implementation, long term social science monitoring in coastal communities as well as economic impact analysis of habitat restoration.

My duties involved working mainly with private sector and a few public sector clients, assisting them with monitoring, mitigation and control of industrial pollution.
