This role started in December 2011 as the engineer on staff to oversee the engineering aspects of the deployment of a start-up fibre optical network to provide broadband services to approximately 200,000 premises across four regions of NZ. Since joining, I have had a number of roles which culminated in the Chief Technology Architect of a network servicing over 180,000 consumers (an uptake of over 74%).I was also a member of the management executive.My responsibilities was to provide oversight for the engineering of the public network including providing the tier 2 operational support. This included the development of standards and practices to support robust and efficient operation of the fibre network, whilst protecting network performance and integrity.I also managed the RFP process for the selection of equipment to replace the Huawei layer 2 network aggregation equipment and OLTs that were reaching their end of serviceable life.I also provided oversight of the cybersecurity for the production network ensuring that it adopted good practices and met the obligations of the Telecommunications (Intercept Capability and Security) Act 2013,

Pukekohe

The role was to provide technical support and economic evaluation of proposed non-core (electricity lines company) business opportunities. These included;• High level engineering design and economic evaluation for a Tier 3 2000 sqm Data Centre and a 6 MW co-generation plant;• General management of the fibre optic network including its re-purchase and expansion;• Economic analysis for Counties Power's bid and technical contractual negotiations with Crown Fibre Holdings for Central Fibre consortium for the government's Ultrafast Broadband Initiative;• Bid preparation for Rural Broadband Initiative to provide fibre based services to rural NZ;• Representing NZ Regional Fibre Group on the Layer 1, Premises Wiring and part-time on the OSS/BSS working groups. Member of NZRFG layer 2 working group.Additional achivements were:• Design and implement the NZ’s first video relay service for Sprint/Ministry of Economic Development;• Project management of SCADA system replacement;• Design and construct fibre optic network extensions and customer provisioning.

This role was to provide managerial and technical support for an internet service provider. I transferred to this role as part of the sale of the Counties Power broadband network and continued to support that network as well as the HSI services of the ISP.My responsibilities included:• Oversight of all data access media (copper, fibre and wireless) infrastructure;• Oversight of all Internet based services (e-mail, authentication, web hosting);• General contractual management of wireless internet POP sites;• Management of technical Engineering staff.I was also involved in:• Upgrading of infrastructure & deployment of new products;• Expansion of the licensed spectrum wireless broadband network;• Provided level 2 helpdesk technical support.

This role was in a business unit that was starting a wireless broadband network using licensed 3.5 Ghz spectrum and a pre-WiMax like wireless service. It also included a layer 2 wholesale only fibre optic network providing services to Pukekohe and a part of Papakura.My responsibilities included:• Technical design of a start-up business unit providing fibre optic and licensed frequency point to multi point public wireless Internet access & public VoIP network including management of network growth and capacity monitoring;• Operational management of the fibre and wireless networks, including providing technical support to and management of the helpdesk and SLA and KPI attainment. This included the management of the customer facing service desk.My achievements included:• Maintained a public wireless network with a customer base exceeding 2000 consumers;• Assisted with the deployment of equipment for the Government project PROBE for internet access to rural NZ (Auckland region);• Developed a customer service/diagnostic portal for end-user customers and Retail Partners.

This role was to provide consulting services to the electrical industry for the selection and deployment of SCADA equipment.My responsibilities included:• Provide senior engineering services including client liaison;• Prepare proposals for customers including pricing and presentation;• Technical design and management of deliverables.My achievements included:• Technical lead for multiple clients of the interfacing of generation control systems, to the real-time Australian wholesale electricity market. This involved being the software development lead based in the SCADA vendor's factory in Texas Huston developing the interface and control application written in Fortran;• Provided consultancy services as part of a multinational team for an Asian Water Resources company SCADA installation which involved onsite work in South Korea;• Acting Information Systems Manager for WEL Networks, a 100-seat Electricity Distribution company, for 18 months. This role included y2k risk mitigation.

This role was part of the management team and had oversight of the information services for the business unit. This included the general IT services, paper records service and engineering drawing office.The business unit was responsible for the Marsden Point, Meremere, Huntly (1000 MW) and Te Awamutu electricity generation facilities and employed 270 staff.

This role was to provide engineering services associated with the installation of a SCADA system and subsequent demanning of the hydro power stations on the Waikato river, Waikaremoana, Matahina and Tokannu power scheme. It was primarily involved with the SCADA computer systems located in central control rooms and also provided support for the selection and high level design of the programmable logic controllers that were installed in the power stations.The role included undertaking routine visits to the vendor's factory in California and an extended period undertaking factory acceptance testing.
