Chief Technology Architect
This role started in December 2011 as the engineer on staff to oversee the engineering aspects of the deployment of a start-up fibre optical network to provide broadband services to approximately 200,000 premises across four regions of NZ. Since joining, I have had a number of roles which culminated in the Chief Technology Architect of a network servicing over 180,000 consumers (an uptake of over 74%).I was also a member of the management executive.My responsibilities was to provide oversight for the engineering of the public network including providing the tier 2 operational support. This included the development of standards and practices to support robust and efficient operation of the fibre network, whilst protecting network performance and integrity.I also managed the RFP process for the selection of equipment to replace the Huawei layer 2 network aggregation equipment and OLTs that were reaching their end of serviceable life.I also provided oversight of the cybersecurity for the production network ensuring that it adopted good practices and met the obligations of the Telecommunications (Intercept Capability and Security) Act 2013,
Technical Project Manager - Business Development
The role was to provide technical support and economic evaluation of proposed non-core (electricity lines company) business opportunities. These included;• High level engineering design and economic evaluation for a Tier 3 2000 sqm Data Centre and a 6 MW co-generation plant;• General management of the fibre optic network including its re-purchase and expansion;• Economic analysis for Counties Power's bid and technical contractual negotiations with Crown Fibre Holdings for Central Fibre consortium for the government's Ultrafast Broadband Initiative;• Bid preparation for Rural Broadband Initiative to provide fibre based services to rural NZ;• Representing NZ Regional Fibre Group on the Layer 1, Premises Wiring and part-time on the OSS/BSS working groups. Member of NZRFG layer 2 working group.Additional achivements were:• Design and implement the NZ’s first video relay service for Sprint/Ministry of Economic Development;• Project management of SCADA system replacement;• Design and construct fibre optic network extensions and customer provisioning.

This role was to provide engineering services associated with the installation of a SCADA system and subsequent demanning of the hydro power stations on the Waikato river, Waikaremoana, Matahina and Tokannu power scheme. It was primarily involved with the SCADA computer systems located in central control rooms and also provided support for the selection and high level design of the programmable logic controllers that were installed in the power stations.The role included undertaking routine visits to the vendor's factory in California and an extended period undertaking factory acceptance testing.
