I have been employed with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for 28 years. I’ve held positions as a detective, street crimes investigator, ABC investigator, General Instructor, and community coordinator. As a GI I’ve taught BLET and in-service training classes at CMPD’s Academy and assisted with in-service defensive tactics training. While working as a street crimes officer, I was responsible for street-level drug investigations. This included conducting surveillance, background checks, use of CI’s, working with area stakeholders, writing up search warrants, and executing the search warrant. I’ve written and executed operation plans to reduce criminal activity spiking in my division. This includes analyzing crime stats, identifying trends, and coordinating with area community leaders, business leaders, and officers. I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside ATF, FBI, Secret Service, and US Postal Inspectors office. I have been a part of CMPD’s CEU since its inception. I served during the DNC, RNC, and all periods of civil unrest in varying roles within the CEU.Utilizing CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) I’ve assessed personal, business (commercial and retail), schools, and houses of worship to help better secure their property. This also includes an in-depth look at the day-to-day operations of the organization to ensure a well-rounded approach to overall safety.In my current role, I am a point of contact for over 200 neighborhoods, 20 apartment complexes, and 5 large-scale multipurpose developments. It is my job to be a liaison to these groups to ensure they are receiving the best possible service from CMPD. I've created crime prevention presentations for neighborhoods and business leaders and am comfortable speaking in front of large groups.
