Responsible for completing structural site survey, computer modelling and hand calculations to relevant British Standards and concluding findings in formal reports for the Client. The towers were all timber lattice structures.Shoeburyness Tower SurveysStructural assessment and recommendations of steel tower damaged by ammunition. Responsibilities included structural analysis of tower to provide splice and connection forces to enable structural repairs.

Two consecutive Summers I obtained work placements with Kingfisher Lubrications. In my first Summer I worked on the shop floor, operating for myself the machinery that produces their specialist grease nipples. Having gained an excellent understanding of the practicalities of the production line, as well as an important appreciation of the health and safety regulations and good working practices necessary, in the following summer Kingfisher invited me to work in their CAD department. In the CAD offices I was put in charge of a brand new computer and CAD software system Turbocad 7.0 and tasked to learn how to use this to convert all Kingfisher’s previous drawings into digital format, as well as produce any new CAD drawings required by customers. This I completed, whilst I also played an instrumental role communicating with the shop-floor machinists and management in ensuring accurate interpretation of new CAD drawings. I really enjoy new challenges and working with all sorts of people to get a job done. My time at Kingfisher’s was very valuable in teaching me how to work in very different environments – from shop floor to management – but also gave me chance to demonstrate my drive and ambition in solving problems and taking responsibility at the first opportunity. At the same time, it helped to develop further my managerial skills in ensuring that the team worked together effectively so as to produce parts made to exact customer specifications.
