Westminster Health Care was a private Healthcare Group, specialising in the provision and management of private nursing and residential care homes for elderly people throughout the UK and Northern Ireland. The Project Manager’s role was to develop new sites, usually on a new build D & B basis, from pre-tender planning right through to completion, and to assist with the care and maintenance of the entire portfolio of buildings, including the provision of extensions and alterations to existing premises, in line with various specific regulations, Acts of Parliament and demands of the business. Reporting to the Director of Development the Project Manager took responsibility for all on-site activities for the safe delivery of all new-build, alterations, extensions and refurbishment of Nursing homes and similar buildings. As one of four Project Managers within WHC my focus was mainly on the development of complementary facilities such as a major redevelopment of a Brain Injuries Rehabilitation Centre in Bury, the provision of a new Medical Day Centre in Aberdeen, together with the management of the maintenance function for all of the properties owned by the Company. During my tenure with them WHC increased its portfolio from 50No to over 130No Nursing Homes and other complementary facilities throughout the UK.

Ballast Needham were formerly a Dutch construction company owned by British Aerospace to act as their own in-house Building and Civil Engineering Group. Most of the projects were associated with BAe and their subsidiaries, including Rover although they also competed in the open market. Originally brought into the Company as a Planning Engineer I developed towards Site Management and was section site manager for a large new-build project at Prestwick with specific responsibility for all site planning. Subsequently, I was Site Manager for the redevelopment of a Rover showroom in Bridge of Weir and Site Manager for the redevelopment of the former Daily Record building in Glasgow into a Night Club. Ballast Needham was sold eventually became Ballast Wiltshire, by which time I had left to join Westminster Health Care..
