An Assistant Commissioner for Small Business at the Australian Taxation Office, I have responsibility for the governance and oversight of the Black Economy measures in the ATO. I also chair of the Black Economy Standing Taskforce that aims to provide a whole of government response to the Black Economy. I also have responsibility for the Small Business Income Tax gap program that recently published an estimate of the difference between the amounts the ATO collects and what would have been collected if every small business taxpayer was fully compliant.Achievements include;• Delivering on Black Economy (BE) program commitments to government through effective governance• Funding approval by government to extend our compliance programs to address the Black Economy.• Established effective and trusting relationships with the Black Economy Advisory Board as the key adviser.• Developed effectiveness measures for the Black Economy program.• Established effective and trusting relationships across 11 Federal Government agencies under the Black Economy Standing taskforce to share information and address priority risks• Released the ATO small business income tax gap from 2016-2020• Using insights from small business income tax gap program to improve client experience and inform our treatment strategies• Senior accountable officer for the project to expand the Taxable payment reporting system to high risk industries• ATO Media spokesperson for our response to the Black Economy

As an Assistant Commissioner in the ATO, I had responsibility for a large national work force that delivers frontline engagement, education and support for small business clients across a range of taxation products.We perform assurance activities that protect honest businesses and engage and positively influence those operating outside the system. Our aim is to lower the tolerance of not reporting income and build mainstream support for a level playing field.
