I build bridges. I bring people together so that we can work to protect the environment. This includes: building an interdisciplinary team to implement watershed level restoration actions to protect local streams, taking part in strategic planning efforts, and seeking alignment and balance among competing interests and competing mandates. I work with groups throughout the City and with governmental agencies and non-profit organizations throughout western Washington.This work requires that I lead teams through processes in which we: a) map-out interests, barriers, and pressures, b) identify common desired outcomes, b) select strategic solutions, c) obtain resources and create systems to support implementation, and d) evaluate outcomes and adaptively respond to changing circumstances.

This was limited duration special assignment with Puget Sound Partnership (PSP) via an Interagency Agreement between the City of Redmond and Partnership. During my tenure in this position, I ran PSP's Eco Net Social Marketing Capacity Grant Program. I provided technical assistance and advice to non-profits developing social marketing programs that address stream water quality and habitat-related issues. I negotiated and drafted 10 award agreements, worth a total of $200,000. I also assisted the PSP Communication Group in the development of marketing research and with management of a regional environmental awareness campaign.

Redmond, Wa

I worked with residents and businesses, encouraging them to take individual actions to improve salmon conservation and help protect water quality in our lakes, rivers, streams, and Puget Sound. At a regional level: I co-founded a coalition of over 80 western Washington municipal stormwater permittees working to meet outreach requirements associated with the Federal Clean Water Act. This coalition has created a new standard for addressing pollution through public engagement, and built a $4 million (and counting) stormwater pollution awareness campaign that has reached 1 in 4 Puget Sound area residents -- the largest and most successful such effort in Washington State history. I also have worked within the Lake Washington/Cedar/Sammamish (WRIA 8) Watershed, providing input to the Watershed's Salmon Conservation Plan and serving on the Watershed's Grant Allocation Sub-committee.At the local level: I initiated and managed restoration projects using volunteers -- securing over 10,000 person-hours of volunteer labor for the City. I instituted an environmental education program that has delivered a curriculum to approximately 8,000 - 10,000 elementary school students over the last ten years. I developed, managed, and evaluated social marketing programs that worked with specific audiences. These programs identified and systematically broke down barriers that keep people from adopting actions that will reduce stormwater runoff pollution.

Discovery Park, Seattle Wa

Developed and led interpretive environmental programs for park visitors. I formalized restoration methodologies, oversaw habitat restoration efforts, and managed the Adopt-an-Area volunteer habitat stewardship program.

Seattle Wa

I directed a day camp that provided week-long explorations of Discovery Park in the form of hands-on environmental education programs centered around themes that changed daily. The camp served approximately 800 children ages 3 - 13 each summer. I am perhaps most proud that the camp provided scholarships to kids whose caregivers could not afford tuition, and who were in emergency transitional housing.I was responsible for ensuring that the camp ran smoothly, and most importantly, that we provided a safe, fun atmosphere for children. I hired, trained, supervised, and evaluated a staff of 7. I managed the camp budget, developed registration processes, and delegated administrative tasks. I worked an excellent staff and together we built a team that created a culture of professionalism, creativity, mutual support, and enthusiasm.
