About Peter J. Levens

I am currently working as a Scientist at the Met Office, working on satellite observations that are used in the UK area model for weather forecasting. I work remotely in Glasgow, with occasional trips to the Met Office HQ in Exeter.My previous position was a Research Fellowship at the Met Office in Exeter. That position was funded by EUMETSAT. I completed my PhD at the University of Glasgow (thesis defended November 2017, graduated June 2018), during which I was primarily researching solar tornado-like prominences using spectral and imaging diagnostics, radiative transfer modelling, and spectropolarimetric techniques. These advanced data analysis methods have equipped me with the ability to adapt to many different challenges, and I am looking for new ways to use my expertise and experience going forward.My thesis won the prestigious 2018 European Solar Physics Division PhD Thesis Prize, for "significant contributions to the study of tornado-like prominences - using detailed ultraviolet spectroscopic, multi-wavelength imaging and visible spectropolarimetric observational analysis - helping unveil the nature of these structures."
