Peter J. Schwartz is corporate attorney in the Mergers & Acquisitions group at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, admitted to the New York State Bar.Focusing primarily on sports industry transactions—including sales of professional teams and media deals, as well as league restructuring, governance and financing matters—Peter has to date represented the NBA, NHL, PGA TOUR, UFL/XFL, MLS’ Lionel Messi, and owners of major teams across sports. Previously, he worked in the firm’s Banking group on financing agreements.Peter received a Juris Doctor degree (cum laude) from NYU School of Law where he won the 2022 Jack J. Katz Memorial Award for Excellence in Entertainment Law. Previously, he was that school’s Lisa Goldberg Fellow—awarded to a professional journalist to study law in-residence.As the original Senior Sports Valuations & Legal Reporter at Sportico, Peter compiled valuations of NFL, NBA and MLB franchises. He received a Society for Advanced Business Editing & Writing Award for this work; of 1,126 nominees from 161 news outlets worldwide, he was among the few award-winners for 2020. Previously, Peter served in writing roles for Former President Bill Clinton and New York City’s bid for the Olympic Games.As a Consultant on business economics, Peter directed the 40 Wall Street office of Anderson Economic Group where he compiled valuations and expert testimony reports. Later, he was a Consultant on staff at Brewer Attorneys & Counselors where he conducted analysis for commercial litigation and engaged in legal and editorial writing.Peter was Presidential Research Scholar for 5 years at NYU where he studied and lectured. Separately, since 2019 he has recurrently guest lectured a college course there and in 2021 was Law Clerk to NYU’s President/Law School Dean Emeritus and Teaching Fellow for Corporations.In addition to his JD, Peter earned from NYU an MA (in Law, through his specialized fellowship) and BA (Journalism/Sports Business Management), each with multiple honors from NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study.
