I have always had an interest in ecology and was for many years the Botanical Society of the British Isles recorder for Co. Clare, Ireland. I give lectures to interested groups on the unique flora and geology of this region, and also on edible wild plants.My interest in golf design began 15 years ago when I designed and built a minimum ecological impact golf course; Kilmashogue Golf Club, Dublin. Since then I have been involved in many other projects both local and international. One of the local projects I was involved in, Balcarrick Golf Club, received an international finalist award in the Renovation of the Year 2008, a competition sponsored by Golf Inc. magazine in the US.I have recently produced a secondary planting scheme to increase biodiversity in Macreddin Golf Club, Aughrim, Co. Wicklow, Ireland.On the international front I produced an ecological impact report in a very large tourist / golf development near Yambol, Bulgaria.It is my belief that any development can be ecologically beneficial if it planned properly. Man and nature can coexist to their mutual benefit; mutualistic symbiosis in action..I have recently retired as Head of Science and Director of Boarding in St. Columba's College, Dublin, Ireland and as assistant principal I was a member of the senior management team with responsibility for discipline.For the past 25 years I have corrected Leaving Certificate biology and and also mark appeals. I have had five books published on chemistry and biology for second level students; some of them interactive ibooks.. I also contribute regularly to an annual publication called Science and Technology in Action.
