I lead the policy for Imports and EU trade of animals and animal products, managing a diverse team of between 40-70 staff. I lead on developing and delivering new policies for import controls, supporting EU export trade, supporting SPS trade negotiations and I lead a large legislative programme. I have delivered the relevant policy and legislative changes to import controls following EU Exit and am currently leading the development of GB import controls for Sanitary and Phytosanitary goods (SPS). I am also UK chair of various international trade committees for Sanitary and Phytosanitary goods (SPS).

I was the HR Director for Natural England (organisation of around 1500-2000 people) and HR lead advisor for the Environment, Rural and Marine Policy Group within Defra. A key achievement was to support the planning and delivery of organisational change, working with the CEO and senior team on a revised organisational strategy and senior team. Other key objectives included on delivering senior recruitment, complex case management and providing strategic advice and interventions on key people issues such as leadership, strategic workforce planning and people engagement

I led the policy team on Civil Service Pay, Pensions and Exits, managing a team of 10-15 people to develop and deliver policy proposals for Ministers. Until October I also led the business as usual operations of the Civil Service Pension Scheme working closely with the scheme administrator, MyCSP

On secondment from Cabinet Office to act as Secretary to an Independent Review of the Law Governing Industrial Disputes, led by Bruce Carr QC. As Secretary I lead a small team of civil servants and lawyers to support Bruce Carr to deliver his review. This includes a wide range of duties, including stakeholder management, research and analysis, project management and managing logistical arrangements.

Managed cross-government approvals for a major government project; led the programme management office, with all aspects of project management; developed and implemented a communications strategy; led a series of small projects where high-level strategic thinking was required

Led and managed the Minister for the Cabinet Office’s Private Office. This included driving delivery of the Minister’s priorities across his full portfolio; providing strategic policy advice to the Minister; managing relationships with key stakeholders, including No.10 and HM Treasury, and overall management responsibility for 35 staff across 6 ministerial offices

Coordinated the Government’s approach to public sector industrial relations risks; provided advice and briefing to senior Ministers on industrial relations policy issues; supported Ministers on the major reforms of public service pensions

Developed and implemented a new Reward Strategy for the Cabinet Office. This included the development of a new performance assessment framework, performance management process, pay structure and pay award process. Lead responsibility for Cabinet Office employee relations, reward policy and pay negotiations with trade unions. This included managing all aspects of the annual pay award process and complex pay and reward casework.
