Peter Johnstone OAM (semi-retired) has worked in senior positions at all levels of government in Australia, has been chief executive of many large public sector organisations, and director and chair of various boards in the public and not for profit sectors. He has been headed many Commonwealth programs, Victoria Government departments including Community Services, a number of local governments, and has been Chair of Jesuit Social Services, VincentCare Victoria, the Council of Catholic Social Services, Jesuit College of Spirituality, Catholics for Renewal Inc. and Convener of the Australasian Catholic Coalition for Church Reform.Peter has pursued strongly the development of effective forms of corporate governance, project management and culture, with a focus on identification and achievement of outcomes. He believes that good governance must be outcomes oriented and values-based, and informed by the needs of clients and communities, with decisions taken as close as practicable to the people affected (subsidiarity). Peter is Principal of PJ Governance. He is particularly committed to supporting better governance arrangements for organisations serving communities, and has a long-standing commitment to social justice with a particular interest in social inclusion, justice for indigenous people, and the role of seniors in society. Peter is a Fellow of The Australian Institute of Company Directors. His qualifications are BA (Admin), Dip Corporate Directors, and MA (Theology).Specialties: Reviewing and improving organisational governance arrangements, with particular regard to the effectiveness of governance at Board and CEO level.
