CurrentPrepare work plan and budgets and take lead in the implementation of the strategy; Advise and train Beach Management Units (BMUs) members and the general community about sustainable fishing practices including identification and elimination of illegal fishing gears, identification and protection of fish breeding and nursery sites; Collaborate with research institutions local and international to undertake relevant surveys and research on fisheries resources in order to address priority… Show more Prepare work plan and budgets and take lead in the implementation of the strategy; Advise and train Beach Management Units (BMUs) members and the general community about sustainable fishing practices including identification and elimination of illegal fishing gears, identification and protection of fish breeding and nursery sites; Collaborate with research institutions local and international to undertake relevant surveys and research on fisheries resources in order to address priority fishery management issues; Advocate and support use of environmentally friendly fishing technologies such as Solar lanterns in fishing so as to reduce emission of GHGs; SOME WORK ACHIEVEMENTTogether with TNC Team and the Government of Tanzania, I have spent over 6 years working with community Advocating collaborative fisheries management in 23 Lake Tanganyika coastal villages in Tanzania which led to establishment 20 BMUs.ON RESEARCH ENGAGEMENT: I have been leading research teams (both ecological and socioeconomic; National and international teams) and link research outcome (the science) with our conservation targets. Universities involved include Basel university - (Switzerland), Oklahoma, Cornell, Wisconsin, (USA), etc. ON POLICY AND BILATERAL ISSUES: I have participated in policy and bilateral engagement both locally and internationally:I have worked with Leaders in Ministries of Livestock and Fisheries of Tanzania and Zambia on fisheries co-management Matters; I have led the establishment of fisheries co-management work in Zambia L. Tanganyika under FZS and look forward to scale up and replicate BMP learned throughout Burundi, Congo DR. and other African Freshwater bodies;CURRENT TASKS INCLUDE: Leading the TNC-Tuungane freshwater ecosystems conservation on Lake Tanganyika – Tanzania;Technical support to FZS on the Zambian Lake Tanganyika Fisheries co-management;Technical support and local leadership of the Seaweed farming project in Zanzibar – Tanzania.
