His career started out as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Togo and the CAR and rose to be a Vice President and Regional Manager for CDM Smith (for Africa). His experience includes program management, project management, construction management/supervision, design, planning, maintenance, and operations. Besides extensive experience in the private sector, he has led or been on the 5 Board of Directors for multiple NGOs engaged in international development. His nonprofit work has involved working extensively with aid agencies, development financial institutions, foundations, government entities and the private sector. He has worked within and for numerous public utilities in the developing world. He also has experience with starting up sustainable non-profit ventures such as the Denver Front Rangers and Manicaland Bike Challenge. He pioneered R.O.C.K.S. – the acronym for the tenets of durability. He has been a country manager for a variety of projects from rural water and sanitation (WASH) to mega-dam and hydropower projects. He has served as a “thought leader” and guest speaker at numerous conferences and initiatives associated with international development and has authored and co-authored books and articles for professional organizations about water resources management. He has a BS in IEOR and, through coursework at the UC Berkeley, Colorado State University (where he was enrolled in their Masters’ degree program) he became a registered professional engineer (Civil) in multiple states. He speaks three languages.
