My first job on leaving Preston Secondary Modern School in Yeovil, was joining the Fleet Air Arm. I served for 34 years attaining the rank of Chief Air Engineer (Ordnance) with an Exceptional Annual report.Prior to leaving the Navy my last 4 years entailed secondment to the Health and Safety centre at the RNAS Yeovilton as the Deputy Station Health and Safety Officer, and then as a civilian as a Professional and Technology Officer. Responsible for all Health and Safety Audits throughout the Air Station and experience with The COMAH Regulations as a Top Tier Site. Also responsible for all Risk Assessor Training (in house) of all Civilian Supervisors and Service personnel. Investigate all accident reports and complete the necessary paperwork required by the MOD. Experienced in Fire Risk Assessment , Asbestos Management and Control of Contractors on large projects. After 12 happy years at Yeovilton and completing my NEBOSH Certificate at Taunton SCAT and NVQ level 5 Diploma with SHE Knows. I moved to my present role, The Berkeley Leisure Group Limited as the Group Chartered Health and Safety Advisor . I thoroughly enjoy this role and also enjoy the full backing of a very proactive Managing Director.I have also enjoyed mentoring internally employees wishing to embark on Health and Safety careers with the Certificate course , with some success.Familiar and working knowledge of Management systems OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. After nearly 17 years in this role I have gained a lot of experience in the CDM role and training and Audit roles, to add to my previous extensive Man Management and Engineering experience.I am retiring in October 2024 from my current role, at the Berkeley Leisure Group after 17 enjoyable years. Travelling throughout England and Wales visiting our lovely residential Park home sites. Carrying out Audits and Training, has been very enjoyable giving me great job satisfaction.I would love to pass my knowledge , and 29 years Health and Safety experience on to a future employer, in a home based Consultancy role or even travelling to sites with overnight stays . Otherwise I would consider a Health and Safety role in the Somerset area working as part of a larger team of fellow professionals.
