As a Lieutenant in the Bureau of Prisons, I am a shift supervisor withinthe Correctional Services Department. I provide correctional supervision to correctionalofficers, and non-custody staff during my tours of duty. I assist correctional officers andjunior lieutenants in the interpretation of national and local policy, and guide them in dayto day inmate management. During emergency situations, I have controlled the crisissituation, guided staff response, and secured the area to maintain the orderly running ofthe institution. As the Special Housing Unit Lieutenant, I was responsible for the orderlyrunning of the unit in which I supervised twenty correctional officers. I managed thecare, custody and control of approximately 100 high security offenders. I ensured allinmates received all policy required meals, clothing and linen, hygiene items, andrecreation. During this period, I conducted several immediate and calculated uses offorce, some with the use of chemical/stun munitions. Acting as the Segregation ReviewOfficial, I ensured all reviews were completed within time frames, and all ninety day PostDisciplianry Segregation reviews were completed. As a Operations Lieutenant, Imanage approximately 50 correctional officers and supervise their duties maintaining ainmate population of approximately 1200 medium security inmates. I makefrequent rounds of the institution ensuring the staff are keeping the safety and sanitationstandards at a outstanding level at FMC Devens and FCI Fairton. Ivisit correctional officers on post, ensure they understand policy, guide them in themanagement of the inmate population, and offer on the spot training to assist them intheir daily duties. I have dealt with many potentially volatile situations and utilized mycommunication skills to deescalate the situation at hand. I have earned the respect ofstaff and inmates alike, due to my fairness and application of policy.

Provided accurate Military and Police consulting and training for entertainment and private film sectors. Using my experience as a combat experienced US Soldier to give a more realistic and detail oriented feel to various film projects during both preproduction and production phases of filming. Created and implemented training materials from the ground up to mirror the current Massachusetts General Laws where they pertained to police work. Additionally, I used my training and experience with the United States Army to further ensure accuracy in the portrayals of both police and military personnel on screen. I was responsible for the instruction of multiple trainers within the organization ensuring training was accurate and complied with current state standards for police work. This instruction lesson plan is still being utilized to present day. Additionally, I instructed courses with up to 30 participants in 36 hour instruction blocks maintaining compliance with all relevant standards, policies and procedures. When deficiencies were realized, alterations to existing lesson plans were implemented. While managing training, I ensured all budget items were adhered to including equipment purchases and management of staff scheduling. Maintained all related sensitive equipment to ensure proper storage and transportation to and from each site. Provided recommendations for equipment upgrades and ensured these purchases fell within budgetary limitations. This experience has resulted in nearly 500 hours of instruction throughout my time with this organization.

As a Senior Officer, I continually maintain the care, custody and control of inmates in accordance with Bureau of Prison’s policies and procedures. Supervise inmate activity, which assists in the overall safe and orderly operation of the facility. Perform general security duties to prevent escape, disorder, rule infractions, and harm to other inmates, visitors, and staff. All while using sound judgment and the minimal amount of force necessary. Identify inmates who may have behavior, medical, and other issues of concern, so appropriate measures of safety and security may be taken. Particularly paying attention to inmates listed in the Posted Picture file and alerting appropriate staff of any abnormal incidents that could further assist in inmate care. Regularly maintain and record inmate counts, cell assignments, and other pertinent information that is crucial to institutional security. Prepare written documentation, which provides information to higher custody personnel and other institutional staff. These documents include but are not limited to; incident reports for inmates who violate Bureau of Prisons policies, detailed memorandums to senior custody personnel, security work requests to ensure maintained institutional security, and additional work orders.
