About Peter Piazza
My work is oriented towards understanding how public education can best prepare citizens for thoughtful participation in a multicultural democracy. I work on alternatives to test-based school quality measurement at the Massachusetts Consortium for Innovative Education Assessment and its spinoff, the Education Commonwealth Project. Before starting at MCIEA/ECP, I completed a postdoc at Penn State's Center for Education and Civil Rights, where I was involved in research on voluntary school integration and anti-bias education in early education. I completed my Ph.D. at the Boston College School of Education in 2015, where I studied the rise of well-funded advocacy organizations and their impact on democratic engagement in public education policy making. I also write about education and racial justice at the School Diversity Notebook - www.sdnotebook.com.
