About Peter Sage

Consulted with the district on the multi-million dollar acquisition of a new comprehensive literacy curriculum. Responsible for the school-wide rollout of a new district literacy curriculum which included developing and providing school-based professional development, planning and coaching teachers in the implementation of the new curriculum, and analyzing unit data to provide next steps to ensure success for all students. Coached, co-taught, and modeled instruction with probationary teachers in both literacy and math using the MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) framework and the SOEI (Standards of Effective Instruction) model.Developed the Target Reading Buddies program in collaboration with the University of St. Thomas Education Department, elementary teachers, administration, and Target Corporation. This partnership between Target employees and students paired each child with a year-long reading buddy meeting weekly for 30 minutes to develop their reading and writing skills aligned with state standards. Developed FAIR Reads with input and collaboration with the elementary teachers, and the University of St. Thomas education department. FAIR Reads is a home-to-school program that delivers leveled books into the hands of our students bridging the home-to-school connection with parents and promoting understanding of the developmental steps of reading. Delivered district and instructional Professional Development to staff in a relevant, engaging, timely manner focusing on the needs of staff and students, their current level of literacy and math understanding, while promoting culturally relevant literature and teaching techniques.Developed a school-wide screening procedure to evaluate student academics using a variety of different literacy probes. Assessed students to determine what reading skills needed development and reinforcement, then designed curriculum in collaboration with teachers to meet the individual needs of the student in both pull-out small group settings and within the classroom. Implemented a system of weekly benchmarking to track student progress, and adjusted instruction to meet their individual needs.Coordinated school, district, and state testing; designed web-based video and written procedure to ensure uniform delivery of assessments, scheduled students into labs, and communicated with all stakeholders on best practices for test preparations.
