Peter is a Canadian architect of Swedish descent. He grew up in Montreal and Toronto and now lives and practices in Winnipeg and Toronto. He studied Literature at McGill University, graduating in 1992. After living and travelling in Haida Gwaii and then Europe, he went on to study Architecture at the University of Toronto. There he spearheaded a 2-1/2 month collaborative community field design workshop in Monteverde, Costa Rica with architect, professor, and friend, Jeff Stinson. He has worked with Joe Lobko Architect , Levitt Goodman Architects, and Prairie Architects, and established his own firm in 2008. He is now the Principal Architect of Public City which he owns and operates with his partner, Landscape Architect and public artist, Liz Wreford. A pan-disciplinary practice, Public City's award-winning work has been published across Canada, most recently in Leslie Jen’s new book, Canadian Architecture, Evolving A Cultural Identity. Peter’s firm is the recipient of a Governor General’s Medal in Architecture and a number of other awards including: three Prairie Design Awards; a CSLA Award in Landscape Architecture; and two RAIC/CSLA Urban Design Awards. They recently won the Calgary Mayor’s Award and two Winnipeg Heritage Awards. Peter is a Fellow of the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada and a recipient of the Lieutenant Governor’s Award of Ontario and the AIA Gold Medal.Between 1998 and 2018, Peter taught architecture, design, and technology in both the graduate and undergraduate faculties of the Universities of Toronto, Waterloo, and Manitoba. He served on the Canadian Architecture Certification Board (2014-2017), the Council of the Manitoba Association of Architects (2008-2014), and was Vice President of The Art City Board in Winnipeg between 2014 and 2016.Public City is the winner of the 2021 international competition for the LGBTQ2S+ monument in Ottawa which moves into construction in 2024. The firm’s work has been featured in Macleans, Azure, Canadian Architect, Landscape, the New York Times, and the Globe & Mail.
