Peter Schechter is an entrepreneur, political strategist and foreign policy expert. He has successfully launched numerous startup organizations in communications, public policy and hospitality which stand out as leaders in their fields. In 2019, he founded Immigrant Food, a social enterprise restaurant company that celebrates, advocates and educates on behalf of immigrants. He also hosts and produces Altamar, a global affairs podcast.He began at the Atlantic Council in 2013 as the Founding Director of the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center. In a few short years, the Center has become one of Washington’s premiere addresses to advocate for better relations with the region. He went on to serve as Senior Vice President for Strategic Initiatives in early 2016 and was soon also tasked with standing up the new Center on Resilience as Interim Director.Schechter has served as the lead consultant on a host of high-stakes elections around the world – overseeing polling, campaign management, advertising, and media relations. In 1993, Schechter co-founded Chlopak, Leonard, Schechter, and Associates. Sold to Omnicom in the early 2000’s, the firm continues today.Peter speaks six languages fluently and is a sought-out media voice on issues from Latin America, to Europe, Mideast and Africa – in English as well as for Spanish, Portuguese, French and Italian media.A graduate of SAIS at Johns Hopkins, Schechter has taught at two universities on the intersection of international business, communications, and politics. He served as a visiting professor at Ben Gurion University's (BGU) Faculty of Business and Management and was appointed to BGU's Board of Directors in 2012. Schechter is also an adjunct professor at George Washington University and a published author of two novels with Harper Collins: Point of Entry (2006) and Pipeline (2009). He helped to launch, was a Board member and is a long-time investor in Jose Andres’ restaurant group. He owned Agur Winery, a boutique winery in Israel, and co-manages a Virginia goat farm.
