About Peter Scholtz
Currently involved in research and software development at Microsoft Research Cambridge on Project Silica where a revolutionary data storage technology is developed for the cloud. I am mainly involved in signal processing and image processing application research and development using Python and Git to support the collaborative work.During my career I have worked for just a few employers, but with different types (education, governmental, research, services). I have worked on the field, and also in office, most of the time in an international, multicultural environment and managed the work of teams, where I was able to communicate easily and find contacts with people (including students).I have successfully applied for research grants based on original ideas of seismic methods. From the Marie Curie Fellowship Transfer of Knowledge Development Host Scheme an international research team was funded (1 million EUR) and I was the scientific leader. As the deputy manager of our Division I coordinated the work of several people and now have 25 years of management and project management experience.

Development of high productivity and quality seismic acquisition and processing methods: simultaneous source acquisition, source signal estimation, harmonic noise reduction, calculation of optimum pseudo-random sweeps for broadband and/or urban area surveys.Studies carried out on radioactive waste disposal and CO2 sequestration site characterisation.Lead an international team of researchers of the project ASAP (Advanced Seismic Acquisition and Processing) in collaboration (WesternGeco Oslo and Schlumberger Cambridge Research UK). We were focusing on the development of simultaneous vibratory acquisition and processing techniques. The main objective was to enhance land-seismic data by suppressing the harmonic-noise, which is produced during the Vibroseis signal generation. We have studied amplitude and phase relations of the distorted signal components, modelled the coupled vibrator-earth system, worked on deterministic and adaptive (data-dependent) filtering. Global optimization techniques are implemented (Simulated Annealing and Genetic Algorithm). Used t-f domain representations and filtering, too.
