Initially developed in Ruby before a rewrite in Golang, the agent communicates with the RightScale core site to provide auditing, configuration, and monitoring for Linux and Windows instances across AWS, Azure, and Google clouds.Developer for Optima Cloud Cost Optimization product in Golang. Wrote recommendations business logic to efficiently process AWS, Azure, and GCE CSV-based billing data in order to identify potential cost savings for Enterprise customers. Processed hourly-grained billing CSVs in the 100s of gigabytes.Developer for core RightScale CloudManagement platform. Developed new features in core Rails application. Developed features and integrations for AzureRM, GCE, and AWS clouds using the CloudGateway, a worker-based system to periodically poll clouds for changes in resources. Fixed bugs and performance issues.Developed and improved automation for building RightScale RightImages in Ruby. Developed a workflow tool that built, uploaded, and tested hundreds of production-ready machine images (CentOS, RHEL, Ubuntu, and Windows) for all major public and private cloud providers.Dockerized multiple internal web services as part of a company-wide effort to containerize all services called project Sherpa. Was the primary software developer for the research-oriented website “The Paleobiology Database” (paleodb.org). After joining in the third year of a five year National Science Foundation funded project, I greatly improved and expanded a large PERL code base. Wrote new queries and web forms for input of complex and interconnected data stored in a MySQL database with approximately forty tables and over a million records. Greatly improved performance through caching of hierarchical data and refactoring of slow queries. Continually wrote scripts for uploading of varied Excel and CSV data sets from researchers.Worked with my scientist boss to create or improve upon software modules for map projections, generation of data sets, estimation of species origination and extinction, analysis of species diversity throughout history, display of fossil occurrence data, and display of taxonomic data.Created simple REST APIs to provide fossil occurrence data to third party projectsAdministered two OS X servers and setup systems for backup, mirroring, project management and code management.
