After joining in the third year of a five year National Science Foundation funded project, I greatly improved and expanded a large PERL code base. Wrote new queries and web forms for input of complex and interconnected data stored in a MySQL database with approximately forty tables and over a million records. Greatly improved performance through caching of hierarchical data and refactoring of slow queries. Continually wrote scripts for uploading of varied Excel and CSV data sets from researchers.Worked with my scientist boss to create or improve upon software modules for map projections, generation of data sets, estimation of species origination and extinction, analysis of species diversity throughout history, display of fossil occurrence data, and display of taxonomic data.Created simple REST APIs to provide fossil occurrence data to third party projectsAdministered two OS X servers and setup systems for backup, mirroring, project management and code management.
