My passion is advanced space propulsion technologies, having completed a PhD in this field. I then worked in industry building propulsion systems for satellites at Surrey Satellite Technology Limited. I now have taken up a Senior Lectureship in Astronautics at Kingston UniversityMy first satellite that I was involved in from cradle to grave was one of the worlds first 'phonesat'​ (a sub 4kg satellite which had a Nexus One smartphone in it), UKs first CubeSat and probably the most technologically advanced (IMO) satellite ever built called STRaND-1. However it ran into teething problems after launch, it sings loudly but it is a little deaf...I have worked on a variety of plasma propulsion systems, cold/warm gas propulsion systems and mono-propellant propulsion systems. By the end of 2019/20 I should have five individual propulsion systems that I have had significant input on (design, build, test or commission) in orbit around our Earth.I am also a co-founder of a medical based plasma company '4th State Medicine' (www.fourthstatemedicine.co.uk) that is aiming to bring plasma based technologies from the space propulsion field into the medical field, specifically looking into cosmetic surgery applications, general surgery applications and sterilisation.
