Since September 2024 Peter Styles acts as Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Energy Company of Ukraine (ECU). He fulfils this role as a Non-executive Director. ECU is a state owned energy trading business, set up in 2021 to participate in the European wholesale electricity market and to serve Ukrainian industrial and commercial consumers.Peter also serves since January 2024 as Senior Executive Advisor to the Zero Emissions Traders Alliance (ZETA), established so far in the Gulf States and more widely in the Middle East. The purpose of ZETA is to spur the development of global markets in carbon, renewable attributes and low carbon attributes.Peter is well known for his earlier work on European energy sector liberalisation and for a broad range of work on energy policy, electricity market design, carbon market design and the integration of renewable generation in the wholesale market. In 2003 Peter founded Stratos Energy Consulting, to serve international clients requiring guidance on policy, regulation and market design. From February 2000 till December 2023 Peter was an executive Board Member of the European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET) - now "Energy Traders Europe". He chaired the Electricity Committee of EFET for many years, founded the EFET Task Force Emissions Trading (working on carbon markets) and latterly chaired the EFET Carbon Neutrality Strategy Group. He in addition was a founding Board member of EFET Deutschland. In Spring 2011 Peter became an Honorary Associate of the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy at Dundee University. Peter's corporate career in the 1980s and 1990s encompassed project work in upstream oil and gas, power plant development, the management of a gas pipeline business and the establishment of the first and largest pan-European electricity and gas trading business.
