Overview of Smart SIPs Pty Ltd & Property Development Services Pty Ltd two companies that we founded and operate together Starting as far back as 2002 years we contracted to some of Melbourne’s best custom builders and Architects through our Property Development Services business working in the Pre-Construction areas of Design, Sales, and pre-construction project management and helping hundreds of families put together their dream home In 2005 when The BCA (Building Code of Australia) established the 5 Star energy rating requirement, we became very interested in ways to meet the new requirement and then do better. I had always been interested in this aspect of home design and construction, even as far back as when I was a Carpenter and small builder in Western Australia, as I very often found myself working on homes and buildings where clients wanted the very best insulation and construction methods they could achieve to reduce the home energy consumption and make a more comfortable home to live in. In 2007 I started designing our own new home with the view to design and build it to the best energy rating I could. This interest took me in the direction to start reviewing construction materials building design and alternative construction methods. After extensive research and review I got very interested in SIPs construction in North America and Europe as in these areas the extreme climates require buildings to have better insulation and fewer air changes per hour and SIPs construction provides for both elements in the same material. In 2012 we started Smart SIPs and further researched how we could incorporate this proven construction method into the Australian building code and Industry after extensive testing and building our own home using the SIPs construction we started to offer our building system along with our building and design services to our clients.
