Experienced policy evaluation researcher with extensive and wide-ranging research career in academia and the public sector with a focus on crime, youth justice, education and developing robust evidence and evaluation tools. My PhD examined knife crime and carrying among young people and I have also worked on major evaluations of anti-social behaviour policy for the Nuffield Foundation and of street policing of drug users for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. I have conducted primary quantitative and qualitative research including survey design and analysis, process mapping, interviews, focus groups and participant observation. Extensive use of SPSS as well as R, excel and more recently Power BI. I have worked on among others the first Randomised Control Trial in an English prison, an evaluation of a major NHS programme; a process mapping of international project examining alternative to custody, and large scale projects looking at anti-social behaviour orders and the policing of long-term drug users for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Nuffield Foundation. I am a certified Safe Researcher with the UK Data Service and have extensive experience in the safe storage of data and data repositories.I am also an accomplished editor and as well as sometimes freelancing, I am Managing Editor of the Probation Journal (non-salaried); I was volunteer Chief Editor of an online digital arts magazine, and have acted as a reviewer for various high-ranking journals including the European Journal of Criminology and the British Journal of Community Justice. I am also on the editorial board of a non-profit organisation dedicated to curating and publishing stories on the Irish diaspora.
