Having created two industry magazines, a TV show and having worked with companies from within every discipline of hydro, we have now become the go-to agency for hydroponic companies all over the world. My current position with Para, the website design and branding agency started in 2009 after we dissolved Paranoid UK Ltd. Para has been our most successful venture, having completed thousands of projects and maintained great relationships with hundreds of clients worldwide. We're currently a small team of creatives who are oversubscribed - just the way we like it. We can pick and chose our projects and take on jobs we know we can hit out of the park.

Hydro Publishing was the publishing company for hydroponics HYDROMAG magazine. This was probably my most enjoyable project, with the output of the magazine being the project I am most proud of. Product testing was our niche, an endeavour no other magazine in the industry has dared to venture yet.

Paranoid UK Ltd was a company I became director of straight after finishing university. We mainly focussed on design for the music industry, designing record sleeves for the UKs techno producers and Leed's night club scene.

Massive Publishing UK Ltd was the holding company which created the title "Urban Garden Magazine". We co-created the "Hydroponics Lifestyle Magazine" concept along side Everest Fernandez, who took the magazine to Canada and USA. A storming success, this magazine is still touted as the best magazine ever to grace the hydroponics industry.

Focus Build Magazine was a trade publication created by Niche Media Ltd. At the time of my employment, I was on my gap year from university. The directors needed a designer who was willing to work all hours and bring a magazine to print, often to tight deadlines. This was a steep learning curve, but an experience I took a lot from. Working along side one other designer, we published four "64+ page" magazines in my 8 month tenure.

This was a family business founded by my Uncle who started his own turned components company after becoming a time served engineer at another engineering firm in East Lancashire. Starting off as chief floor scraper and working up to automatic machine setter over a course of 7 years, this position gave me a good general technical understanding, as well as giving me an in-depth understanding of imperial and metric measurements and a broad knowledge of turning, milling, grinding, tool making and innovation in metal engineering. My uncle would say 'You always get the good jobs Pete' - meaning, I would get the jobs that were painstakingly awkward, which require lots of patience and high accuracy over a long period of repetitive manual turning or milling. I find the skills I learnt in this position often come in use in my current job at Para, specially when working with companies in the manufacturing sectors.

This was the job which I think gave me a strong working ethic. Whilst all my friend we're at home watching neighbours, I was in the cellar of a chip shop peeling potatoes - you may laugh, I am not embarrassed! My boss at the time remarked 'My cellar has never been so clean' - needless to say, I definitely like straight edges! This was no greasy back street chip shop, Les the owner was president of the National Fish Fryers Federation and the shop came in the top 4 fish and chip retailers consistently in the 4 consecqutive years we entered. I finished this job when I started university. As keen businessmen, Les and Val Scott ran a tight ship and built themselves enough money to retire to Spain - a testament to the fantastic little business them and they're team created!
