I worked with a team of highly experienced editors, designers, and media specialists to further the legacy, in print and online, of this revered publication for amateur astronomers, first published in 1941. I also pursued opportunities for new business, including new physical and digital products, partnerships with other publishers, and astronomy tours.

I worked for the Boston-based Appalachian Mountain Club as Editor in Chief and Publisher of AMC Outdoors, the member magazine of this beloved, nearly 140-year-old recreation and conservation organization. I also served as Publisher of Appalachia, a semi-annual mountaineering and conservation journal published continuously since 1876, and of AMC Books, which has about 75 titles in print.

In my 14 years at NOVA, the PBS science documentary series, I managed a small but crack editorial team and wrote and edited content on science, medicine, and natural history for NOVA's award-winning website. Formats included long-form articles, multimedia interactives, edited interviews, audio slide shows, blog posts, and pod- and vodcasts. For "online adventures," I traveled to remote locations where NOVAs were being filmed and reported back "live" through the web on field research and filmmaking taking place there. I also launched and wrote a column called "Inquiry."

As Senior Editor at Earthwatch Magazine, I wrote and edited articles on scientific and environmental issues and Earthwatch-sponsored field research for this well-known conservation organization. I traveled to Earthwatch field sites in countries ranging from Brazil to Madagascar and photographed and wrote feature articles about scientific expeditions occurring there. Before becoming a Senior Editor in 1996, I served as Managing Editor, in which I did the above while also serving as liaison between the editorial and art/production departments.
