My role involves assessing and making recommendations on a wide variety of planning applications, both major and minor, Listed Building Consents, Advertisement Consents, Lawful Development Certificates and applications to discharge conditions.I am in charge of a varied and challenging caseload, with current / recent applications including:o A proposal in St Albans for 80 dwellings. o A scheme for 100 dwellings on previously developed land in the green belt.o A 150 bedroom hotel development in the green belt.o Conversion of a barn to a school.o Demolition of a locally listed hotel building and its replacement with 25 apartments. o A five-a-side football complex.o A Christmas market in St Albans.My position involves the consideration and analysis of many, often competing, complex planning issues, attracting significant public interest. Providing housing in a District with a sub five year housing land supply, and achieving the correct balance between achieving affordable housing targets and ensuring development viability are issues that I often deal with.My role includes assessing the suitability of new uses in listed and locally listed buildings, and ensuring proposals preserve or enhance the character and appearance of Conservation Areas.Other responsibilities include writing detailed delegated and committee reports, and presenting to Planning Committees.I have also prepared Proofs of Evidence and given oral evidence to a public inquiry for a proposal of 116 houses in the green belt, which involved being cross examined, and assisted colleagues in preparing for an Inquiry for 100 dwellings.My job has also involved preparing appeal statements and giving evidence at more than ten Informal Hearings for schemes including the conversion of an agricultural building to a live/work unit, a replacement dwelling, and the change of use of an office building to residential.

This role involved assessing and making recommendations on various types of planning applications, with a focus on residential schemes of 10 units or less, change of use, Listed Building Consents, householder extensions, Lawful Development Certificates and discharge of conditions.Other responsibilities were pre-application discussions and negotiations, written representation statements and Informal Hearings for appeals.

This role involved coodinating responses to planning applications and planning policy consultations from Local Planning Authorities in respect of issues including flood plain, proximity to watercourses, landfill sites and contaminated land. Other tasks included providing pre-application advice, and comments on screening requests, scoping reports and planning briefs.The job required liaising with internal consultees, officers in Planning Authorities, developers and members of the public to achieve satisfactory environmental outcomes.
