My role is Associate Director in the Business Case and Economics Team within Strategic Consulting. Here I support multiple sectors with appraisals, modelling, and policy development.

National Highways manages and improves England’s motorways and major A roads, helping its customers to have safer, smoother and more reliable journeys. My role as Principal Economist was to provide strategic and economic advice to the Complex Infrastructure Programme on their full business cases, as well as to the broader RIS (roads investment strategy). This included developing innovative appraisal methods on wider economic impacts, reference class forecasting, levelling-up, active travel and environmental impacts.

The Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) is an independent company established as a collaboration between government and industry to lead and challenge the UK’s aerospace technology strategy and through £4 billion of secured and match-funded research and technology investments to maintain and grow the UK’s competitive position.My role as Senior Economist involves developing thought leadership on aerospace, innovation and economics. I work with leading UK aerospace companies and the UK government to examine the business case of prospective R&T investments and to review their impacts on the wider UK economy, playing my part of helping to manage a £2bn portfolio of investments.

My role as economist in the strategy team was to develop and maintain ATI’s economic intelligence (market data), support the assessment of project proposals, contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the ATI programme and conduct ad-hoc studies on topics of strategic interest.

As Senior Economist, I worked with commercial and public sector clients on a range of market-based, economics, environmental, technical and sustainability projects:▪ Raw materials studies – providing reliable market information and materials risk analysis▪ Waste and recycling - studies on waste management, food waste and textile recycling▪ Technical studies – business case and uptake of new emerging sustainability technologies▪ Stakeholder engagement – design and delivery industry surveys across Europe▪ Building robust evidence base – for both policy and corporate strategySome of my other key responsibilities included:▪ Project management – managing European scale multi-partner projects▪ Line management – of two members of staff within the company ▪ Presentations – regularly speak at high-profile industry conferences▪ Business development – preparing proposals, meeting clients etc.▪ Networking – developing and maintaining industry relationshipsA list of projects/publications that I have helped to deliver can be found below.

I joined the company in this entry position, after completing my MSc, and worked on a wide variety of projects including: resource efficiency, scrap metal markets, food waste, raw materials, sustainable products etc. applying his economics skills across a range of relevant topics.
