Upon appointment, I was immediately responsible for investigating previous non-compliance of financial procedures and the rebuilding of the financial records. During this time, I have been working closely with the auditors and have received two clean audit reports.Alongside the rebuilding of the historical financial records I am also responsible for introducing and implementing a wide range of financial policies and procedures to dramatically improve the financial reporting across the organisation. I successfully introduced two new posts into the organisation which aided the day-to-day processing and financial monitoring both within BasicNeeds and with BasicNeeds’ partners. I have developed a transparent and proactive approach with donors, especially where I have identified failings in the past.I line manage a small team and am responsible for their supervision and support. I have trained team members in a range of areas, as well as carrying out inductions and appraisals. I work hard to ensure a collaborative and supportive environment within the finance team. As well as my direct line management responsibilities, I also support a number of overseas based finance officers.In my current role, I am a member of the Finance Sub-Committee and the Trustee Board and assist them in making financial and strategic decisions on the future of BasicNeeds, which has been challenging given increasingly limited funding. This involves pulling together all of the financial information across BasicNeeds’ international partners and programmes and producing management accounts and forecasts as well as various scenario planning tools and other ad hoc reports. I believe my impact at BasicNeeds has been instrumental in ensuring the financial infrastructure has been robust enough to encourage the trustees of the organisation to make the decision to move towards merger and the transition into the new charity.

This involved direct liaison with the auditors involved in those audits and providing adjustments and management letter responses when needed. I also worked closely with the Finance Manager in pulling together and finalising the consolidated financial statements.I conducted regular field visits to overseas programme offices. The purpose of these trips often involved internal audit, one-on-one staff training and work on donor reports and budgeting.
