Project Management Define and manage the hardware development schedule and resource profile, adjusting for dynamic changes in the project definition while meeting milestones. Changes included architecture; revisions to optimize support for Linux; increased processor and storage capacity; supplier delays; addition of RoHS; additional board design. Collaboration on project content, product cost optimization and ongoing alignment of deliverables with Product Management. Teamed with New Product Introduction team and CM/EMS to manage prototype and trial builds. Interfaced with corporate groups and 3rd party suppliers to leverage use of additional resources and to ensure deliverables aligned with standards. Worked with Verification, Serviceability, Regulatory, PCB/CAD, Mechanical, Corporate Supply Chain & Component Engineering and Corporate Legal.ArchitectureResponsible for the architecture and design of the new CP-PM, MGC and VGMC packs and DSP daughterboards. Identified requirements, evaluated and selected suppliers. Vendor evaluation and selection for new DSP and embedded BIOS vendor. Addressed processor performance, memory and storage requirements within legacy system power and thermal budgets. Innovative design allowed migration from 600MHz to 1.4GHz processor without PCB change and expansion to the chipset maximum 2GB memory; solid state (Compact Flash) storage maximized reliability; minor design change added 2.5” hard drive for cost effective expansion beyond current Compact Flash capacities. Used industry and de facto standards throughout the design for reliability, longevity and future enhancement. Targeted long life embedded components.
