Having worked in television, radio, print, and in the blogosphere, my experience as a journalist spans today’s burgeoning media landscape. Whether it’s as a one-man-band television journalist, newspaper beat reporter, or online columnist, my storytelling skills have been recognized and awarded throughout my career by the Society of Professional Journalists, the Wisconsin Newspaper Association, ESPN, and Bleacher Report. I have established myself as a leader in the newsroom, bringing stories that have been researched, “leadable,” and compelling. Working in newsrooms with shrinking budgets has hardened my skill-set as an independent, multifaceted media professional. Despite the limited resources, I have produced quality content no matter the media vehicle, be it television, print, or digital media. I have covered the NFL for Bleacher Report, Yahoo! Sports, USA Today’s digital platforms and now Sports Illustrated. I am a member of the Pro Football Writers of America.While the NFL and sports have been my focus lately, I have extensive experience in news as well. In Yakima, Washington my research uncovered waste in the county court system, I pressed administrators for answers and my story was recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists for Investigative Reporting.Drawing on my wide range of experience as a journalist, I have developed a keen sense of what questions my audiences want answered and use that to drive my story telling. Working with evolving media technology has forged my competitive instincts to take risks by constantly searching for cutting-edge ways to tell stories, whether through a non-traditional technique or finding a unique way to approach a well-established problem. Using social media to break news, digital media to support it and an online medium to proliferate it are part and parcel of the job I’ve done on a daily basis.
