Hired by the CTO to perform a process assessment and make recommendations for improvements. Worked as tester and test automation engineer to validate and implement those improvements. This work also allowed me to learn mobile device testing.Implemented bug tracking recommendations by building new Jira workflows and screens. Implemented test automation recommendations by building a testing framework using commonly available tools including Selenium WebDriver, Java and Python. This framework was data driven, easy for QA people to use, and highly cost efficient because it used much less of the programming and screen mapping needed in the usual test automation approach.

Software QA ManagerLed teams of QA and Automation Engineers that built and maintained 25 public and internal websites for NYSE. Hired, built/maintained QA methodology, managed releases, oversaw site installations and managed 5-22 people, mostly offshore contractors. Most sites displayed information about financial instruments such as price and volume. Several of these were mission critical to the NYSE such as the one that controlled the new NYSE trading engine and the ones that reported market status to traders in real time. Selected accomplishments:Headed a team that built a Selenium WebDriver/Gherkin/TestLink automation framework. The framework reduced the regression test labor by 70%.Tested the control system for a new trading engine at the NYSE. Devised a way to integrate a new test tool (Protractor) into an existing test framework which improved automation productivity by 25%. At an early stage in the project I saw the need for a generic interface simulator tool for web services. I designed it and got it built well before it was needed. It was adopted by Development, which shortened the Middleware coding/unit testing time by 50%.Tested integration of NYSE sites into ICE.com. The task was big, It used new technology (AngularJS) and new back-end functions were not well documented. Worked very closely with ICE QA to deliver this project successfully: I trained ICE QA to perform browser testing. NYSE QA tested most browsers and some functions. ICE QA Tested most functions some browsers. Drove code changes to decouple sites from each other. This reduced integration testing complexity, allowed us to reduce evening install frequency and eliminated the need for a dedicated manager to oversee installs.

QA DirectorAgency.com: An Internet advertising agency with many well-known companies as clients. These included Hewlett Packard, Visa, Del Monte Foods, Discovery Communications (The Discovery Channel), ISO-NE, KeySpan, Signet Bank among others. Managed and/or executed testing of all websites produced by the NY office and included estimating, staffing, test planning, and development of standards and tools. Managed teams up to 5 including offshore staff; reported to VP of QA. Built a new QA department in the NY office after it was destroyed by layoffs when the dot com bubble burst.Developed a methodology for testing Google Analytics that was faster and easier than traditional methods and used only simple tools such as Charles or Fiddler. Also developed a design template for GA sites that simplified development of tracking inside of Flash. Created a performance test based on measured throughput of consumer ISPs that could be executed with simple tools and very little labor.Reduced cost and time to market for very small sites by 30%. Simplified test plans, built self-service browser labs, and trained project managers as testers. Maintained close supervision to keep quality high.Demonstrated a 30% cost reduction for testing a video presentation application using Eggplant for test automation.Created a technical specification template for sites built with Content Management Systems (CMS). Validated this template by successfully designing and testing the site using the new template.Built a new QA team at a client site for a large site redesign. Developed testing strategies for testing the CMS, back-end data integration, performance testing, and custom load balancer software.
