Working on the £16.8m Primary Care Resource Centre in Airdrie for NHS North Lanarkshire. I was liasing with Clients to ascertain the requirements for each GP Practice in order for each individual room within the building to meet their needs and the needs of their patients. Aswell as this regular Client interaction my knowledge of Project Management increased greatly. This lead me to become the Lead for slightly smaller projects within the NHS. One in particular being the Refurbishment of Wards 5, 6 & 7 for Queen Margaret Hospital in Fife. Being the lead I had design responsibilty and had to work on my own initiative. Liasing with the Client and Design Team from initial proposals to construction this gave me further knowledge of project management and technical detailing within the healthcare sector. Including knowledge regarding the Health Building Notes or HBN`s. Within this period I was also asked to be the person responsible for the implementation of BIM throughout McLean Architects in March 2014 researching AEC (UK) BIM Protocols for best practices within the company. This is something I have been passionate about ever since and I have spent many hours researching in my own time as well as attending conferences and seminars on the subject since McLean Architects made the decision to become BIM Level 2 Compliant for the Government Mandate deadline. Due to our early adoption of BIM, McLean Architects were asked to be part of The Scottish Construction Conventions BIM Convention in which I was personally named for my involvement within McLean Architects regarding our BIM progress.I was also responsible for the training of new employees in relation to our CAD/BIM Standards and project procedures and also provided valuable advice and support regarding IT/Computer problems. Therefore a practical and methodical approach had to be used as well as being efficient with the time as deadlines also had to be met.During my time with Keegans I was also asked to carry out EPC Surveys of properties in Essex. Therefore I had to have a flexible attitude in order to travel from Glasgow to Essex every week to carry out the work. This was very much a customer facing role in which a professional manner had to be shown as we were dealing with the public and entering peoples houses to carry out work. Show less

The latter project comprising of 9 GP practices with accommodation for Allied Health Professionals and commercial retail premises at ground floor. This development was the largest health centre in Scotland whencompleted in 2012. I helped progress this project from Concept to Construction, during which my knowledge of construction detailing & tender specifications expanded within the Healthcare Sector.I was also Lead Architectural Technologist for a wide variety of Lloyds Pharmacies which we had a remit to provide Planning & Building Warrant Approvals for as well as Space Planning each store. As well as being involved in the preparation of numerous feasibility reports, obtaining local authority approvals/ listed building consents, tender specification, high quality working drawings, construction detailing, chairing and recording design team meetings and on site liaison with Contractors. During this time I was highly involved in the re-evaluation of the CAD Standards as the Directors felt that this was a strength of mine due to my experience and aptitude to CAD shortly after completing my HNC. I was attending a day release course whilst working with McLean Architects on varying projects throughout the office.During this time my main workload was providing CAD assistance using Bentley Microstation to the Lead Project Architects for external refurbishment proposals for Glasgow Housing Association properties at various addresses throughout the city. I quickly became responsible for a variety of these projects myself which I gained Planning and Building Warrants Approvals. As well as liasing with the Client and Contractor on a day to day basis. Certain Projects also needed 3D Visuals to help the Client visualize, which I produced to a very high quality using a combination of SketchUp and Photoshop. I provided various CAD support for projects in the Education Sector. We had a very good working relationship with Public Bodies such as the University of Glasgow & University of Strathclyde. One project which I had a high involvement with was Lilybank House Refurbishment which we completed in 2005. University of Glasgows Lilybank House was a Grade A Listed mansion house, designed in the main part by Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson and was refurbished by McLean Architects to provide new academic offices and teaching spaces. The refurbishment of this historic building within the University campus was carried out to facilitate the relocation of the Department of Economic & Social History into the building as part of a series of Arts Faculty moves around the Gilmorehill campus, which McLean Architects were also involved in. Working with Historic Scotland and the appointed Contractor, McLean Architects and the University were able to ensure that the decorative stenciling uncovered was visibly preserved and integrated within the new work for future generations to enjoy. This was something that had to be communicated well and a great deal of attention to detail had to be provided. Show less
