Designed, developed and implemented a model portfolio service with the guidance of a fund manager from the Cardiff office who had been running a number of portfolios but using Excel to manage the rebalancing. What was needed was a scalable process, so with the fund manager's help transferred the procedure on to an Access database and linked this with the Trading and Settlement systems already in place in the company. Working with the Research department to streamline the updates to the portfolio models and to automate the new money, cash raising and rebalancing of the portfolios. The Access system scaled easily and demonstrated that a model portfolio service was a viable proposition for Brewin Dolphin to offer to those clients for whom a bespoke portfolio was not appropriate. Rather than grow the system in-house the company decided to outsource to an existing provider and I participated in the choice of supplier and the due diligence visits.Created and implemented new product review process in response to the FCA concerns that new products (they had concerns about ETFs and other related products) were not being rigorously assessed before entering mainstream portfolios. Assisted by an ex-regulator compliance colleague we implemented a new review process and worked to move the knowledge and assessment in to the business areas engaging with this process.
