Working as a Solutions Architect I have been responsible for transitioning a monolithic desktop application into an API-driven microservice-based web application whilst at the same time maintaining that desktop-installed option to end-users. This has been achieved using the WebView2 component to allow the use of web technologies in both desktop and web hosted environments and by decomposing the back-end processing into API microservices.For another project I have created the AWS architecture for its deployment including resilience options and authentication mechanisms. This has involved making use of the Open ID Connect (OIDC) protocol to provide a framework for authentication without being tied to any specific provider. This approach allows for flexible deployment options for SaaS and customer on-premise. Finally, the role involves defining best practices and architecture standards for use across the organisation. As part of this I have driven an initiative to ensure AWS costs are optimised such that best practices are adopted for deployments and that solution designs consider the eventual hosting costs right from the outset.
