Whilst I also act for a number of corporate clients, my principle focus for many years has been with Not for Profit (NFP) entities. I have been working with NFP clients since my first audit over 30 years ago of the National Society for Cancer relief, which included the embryonic Macmillan Nurses. My subsequent experience in the sector includes, inter alia, acting for charities with wide ranging aims, gift making foundations, mutual trading organisations, trade associations, schools, religious, sporting, medical, scientific, respite care, heritage and military based institutions. I also have been involved with a number of local authority and government off shoots. I have dealt with a very wide range of organisations in a sector that can be complex and technically demanding, but which I have found very rewarding to be involved with.Planning – Assisting with the establishment and funding of new entities, mergers and re-organisations. Advising with regard to the type of entity to be formed and the accounting, legal and regulatory aspects. I have also been involved with the recruitment of key employees and trustees.Compliance – Providing audit and assurance services, including Independent Examinations for smaller NFP entities. Identifying and advising on UK corporate and charity compliance obligations, including assistance with issues such as registration, filing of documents and advising on the implications of changes in legislation, financial reporting standards and statements of recommended practice. Co-ordination – Working with Menzies’ specialists to provide consultancy in relation to taxation, employment issues, VAT and other regulatory matters. Specialty: Not for Profit – Providing audit and assurance service, together with advice on financial planning, risk, governance and technical compliance issues.
