With more than thirty years service in Merseyside Police, twenty five of them in leadership roles, I've had first hand experience of building and maintaining effective teams, often in the most challenging organisational settings. The importance of 'recognition', of contribution and value of 'knowledge' has been central to that. Reinforced by a degree in Psychology and Communication Studies, a raft of senior Police leadership training, and a period as head of Training for Merseyside police, I've fought long and hard to stem the flow of knowledge from my own organisation, as it grappled with the budgetary constraints of the early 21st century.
