Regional Hrd - Dubai Based,

Regional HRD based in Dubai, covering M.East/Africa/India, with Harsco Corporation, responsible for HR across Metals and Infrastructure divisions in the region. Responsibilities across twelve companies in seven countries.I designed, developed and implemented a range of appropriate HR policies and procedures to help executives better manage their teams and to begin improving performance. The challenges of progressive HR management in the region were some of the most difficult I have encountered. The total reversal of fortunes in the region following the global recession; the increasing moves towards localisation of labour and its attendant visa restrictions; the cost pressure on all businesses to try to reduce the burden of expat packages linked to the dire skills shortages without them, are all problems specific to working in this part of the world. Working in the region during the "Arab Spring Uprising" had its momets too. Labour disputes are now commonplace in countries where social change is being sought, and there remains significant pressure on pay and benefits in some poorer paid enviroments.

CEME is part of London's Regeneration programme and provides training and new business support, with an engineering and/or automotive accent. Provided individual and team coaching for CEO and board of six directors, to help a newly established board work more effectively together.KERONITE was a Hi-Tech start up based in Cambridge. Helped the new CEO to establish a strategic plan and set up basic employee requirements including search & recruitment.

Group Lotus is both an automotive engineering design business and producer of sports cars, based in Norfolk, Malaysian owned. Joined at time of a turnaround with introduction of new models for both Lotus and GM. Created new HR function, introduced company-wide mngt development programmes, assisited with US company establishment, responsible for ex-pat resources in Malaysia. Took over QS team, Facilities Management and Manufacturing teams with responsibility for building a new production facility and preparing two new models for production. Business successfully turned from loss to profit, facility and new models delivered on time and in budget.

Closed Ladybird Books printing facility with loss of 300+ jobs, secured alternative external placements for 88% of those displaced. Assisted with variety of Pearson Group activities including establishment of Euro Works Council and set up of SAP driven shared services function. Member of Marjorie Scardino's "Pearson Top 250"

Hr Director

Argos was a Footsie 100 company with t/o +£4bn, employing more than 25,000 at peak. Joined newly established board responsible for Argos stores business following Argos' demerger from BAT and establishment of a group of Argos companies. Changed the face of the business by incorporating more "Superstores" into the chain, lifting turnover and profit by double digits when all other reatilers were struggling with a deep recession. Introduced new company-wide communications process involving all mngt levels and monthly board reviews with senior mngt team. Introduction of computer-based training modules for store-based staff. HAY evaluation. Strong IR focus through both regional and national recognition agreements with TGWU covering six major distribution centres and USDAW for stores.
