We’ve been living in South Shropshire for two years now, looking for a final home in a more peaceful part of the country. Our nearest town, Tenbury Wells, is home to the splendid Art Deco Regal Cinema, hosting films, live acts (national and local), NT and RoH broadcasts, and like activities big and small, where I have been helping out and acting, directing, and writing.I’ve also been working with the new management on finances - see below. It’s lovely to be able to build on the skills I learnt in employment and my spells as voluntary treasurer; one of things I’m learning is that arts centre management is pretty demanding!I have written a few plays and had "A Samll Step for England", an exploration of tradition in a global world (and featuring Morris Dancing) performed just before Covid. It is the incongruities of life that fascinate me. Individuality v commoditisation, social anarchy v the need to meticulously detail VAT.... A couple of mine are also on YouTube.Local history is fascinating (you can find some of my books on the website of Kimpton, where I used to live). We live all the time with the decisions of the past.
