At Yarn, I lead the redevelopment of our core product from a basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript setup to an advanced Next.js framework. My responsibilities as the project lead for our front-end revamp include: Team Management: I manage a talented team of developers, ensuring we stay on track and meet our development deadlines. My role involves guiding the team through each phase of our project, from initial design to final deployment. Hands-On Development: I'm actively involved in both front-end and back-end coding. On the front-end, I work with Next.js to create responsive and efficient user interfaces. On the back-end, I contribute to our Python FastAPI server, adding functionalities like Mailchimp integration and other third-party services. Strategic Input: I participate in key decision-making processes regarding the app's design and future features. My insights help shape the direction of our product to better meet our users' needs and market trends. Quality Assurance: I oversee our testing procedures to ensure our application is reliable and user-friendly. This involves coordinating with testers to smooth out any bugs and enhance performance before each release.In this role, I blend my technical skills with leadership to drive our product forward, ensuring it not only meets but exceeds user expectations.

The BLB Podcast is a new project from Brick Lane Bookshop created to celebrate and interrogate the short story form. On each podcast episode we invite a writer to read an excerpt from one of their stories, discuss their writing and editing processes, how they got published, and what they’re reading.

Mentoring a Community of Aspiring Editors and Writers:Managing and working with volunteers consisting of current Birkbeck University students and alumni to offer a first step into the publishing industry. This includes teaching editing and reading fiction skills, helping volunteers to work on featured articles and interviews with top-named authors, creating podcasts with a wide audience, writing blogs posts on the creative writing process, enabling students to set up writing workshops, and giving book review opportunities.Website Design and Growth:Managing the front and backend of mironline.org using WordPress and my skills in HTML and CSS. Increasing website traffic which now attracts an average of 2000 visits per month and this continues to grow each year.Social Media: Increased social media presence by 200% in the last two years making MIR one of the go-to places in the UK to submit new writing and an important node in the UK writing community. The MIR community has also become a major source for new writers and editors and is highly regarded in the publishing industry.Writing Competitions: Created a number of writing competitions including one in collaboration with The Booker Prize that have had hundreds of entries. These submissions have been efficiently and timely organised, edited and published on MIROnline.org. Events with Established Authors: Collaborating with established authors from all genres to create workshops, to publish extracts, and read at MIR’s very popular live reading event, MIRLive.Networking with Publishing Industry: Connected to an ever-growing number of agents and mainstream and indie publishers who now regularly send in books for review and who have offered insider advice to new writers through featured articles. MIR is now seen as a credible place to be reviewed by those in publishing.

Tutoring primary and secondary school-age students in English and maths.Helping struggling students pass 10+ and 11+ exams which I have had a 100% success rate.

I founded Peafield Freelance (peafieldfreelance.com) with the idea of tutoring and editing with kindness at its heart. Learning and using English practically is hard! I want to help my clients find a way to make the journey to becoming fluent or producing amazing work an enjoyable and stress-free experience. Having spent the past eleven years learning various languages myself, I have acquired extensive knowledge on how to do so. In addition, having attended universities in the UK, Japan and The Netherlands for my BA and MA, I bring many years of experience in how to produce high quality work in English. I am also soon going to begin a new adventure at Birkbeck University, studying for an MA in Creative Writing. I hope to share my old and new found skills with you. Peafield Freelance offers an engaging tutoring service in English (Intermediate and Advanced) and a comprehensive editing service. Over the past five years, I have helped non-native speakers go on to get jobs working in English; helped people pass English proficiency exams, such as IELTS, with top scores; and tutored struggling students to achieve high grades in their final exams and papers at university.

I specialised in translating from Japanese to English and English to Japanese. I have worked on novels, academic work and journalistic pieces.

After completing my contract at D&AD as an Awards Assistant (see below), I was asked to stay on to help with the creation of an updated version of “The Copy Book”, a world famous copywriters guide to writing copy written by the world’s best copywriters! My task was to research and contact the original copywriters who wrote for the book and to research potential new contributors. It was a challenging but thoroughly enjoyable task. The work has given me a lot of skills in researching, contacting people and how to communicate with high profile clients.

Due to my Japanese language skills I was mainly in charge of the Japanese entrants, dealing with their complaints and queries. The rest of my duties involved dealing with the physical entries when they arrived and assisting at the judging event. Although I had no experience of the advertising world before, I feel I learnt a lot about the high-pressured world of advertising and it was fantastic opportunity to meet some of the world’s greatest designers.
