In my current role, I am designing, developing and facilitating the technical implementation of Genomics analysis micro-services across various disciplines within Queensland Health in an AWS cloud compute environment. This involves producing high level and detailed design documents for a complex ICT environment, while ensuring the design intuitively meets current and future business needs, adhering to strategic objectives and data security requirements.It involves designing, implementing and securing a greenfield AWS multi-account environment, creating Docker containers, deploying infrastructure (IaC), automating and developing Genomics pipelines using Nextflow or BASH scripts, environment planning, firewall planning and user/business requirements.I maintain collaborative relationships and consultations with senior stakeholders across Queensland Health and external technology vendors to develop, implement and integrate required changes including the resolution of issues relating to technical concepts, techniques and processes. I also manage a small team of support staff.

In this role, I managed a team of specialist technical resources in the delivery of complex technical solutions and provided high level mentoring to the team on infrastructure development and planning to ensure that service delivery met future client demands. I oversaw and lead ICT technical implementations within project management frameworks across multiple complex and diverse Queensland Health change programs and initiatives based on clients’ business and technical requirements.I influenced and provided expert technical advice and leadership to Queensland Health teams in the design of highly complex and multi-faceted infrastructure based systems while managing collaborative relationships and consultations with both internal and external stakeholders to develop, implement and integrate required changes to architecture and design.I oversaw the continual development and improvement of technical designs and solution architectures to ensure strategic alignment to business while adhering to defined service quality standards, health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

In this role I directed, developed and provided professional leadership for the total information systems of the Qld Synod and its activities, while managing and mentoring the Information Technology staff. The Uniting Church is a diverse organisation with many satellite businesses/activities and as such this role’s service portfolio included the following systems:Wired and Wireless Networking, Security Threat Management, Wireless Kiosks, VoIP Telephony, ActiveDirectory/File/Print, Accounting/Payroll, Treasury/Investment, Bank/Building Society, Property Management, Risk and Insurance Brokerage, Electronic Content Management, Customer Relationship Management, Web Hosting, Student Management, Library Management, Online Learning Management, Accomodation Booking and Management, Financial Planning, Superannuation, Helpdesk and Service Monitoring.I analysed and managed the technology infrastructure of the Queensland Synod Office, while aligning it with the business operating plans.I worked closely with the other members of the senior leadership group, my department staff and other key stakeholders to ensure optimum allocation and utilisation of technology resources, to deliver projects on time and maintain the reliability of our service portfolio.I was responsible for the recruitment, management, mentoring and training of the Information Technology team personnel.I designed and led the implementation of our systems architecture and collaborated with key stakeholders in the selection and set up of applications appropriate to their activities.I provided high-level technical assistance to my staff especially in the areas of Linux administration, system architecture, security and integration, networking, system automation/scripting and web development.I developed and implemented information systems strategies and policies, long and short range plans, including annual operating plans and managed the acquisition and maintenance schedule of the technology equipment.

The Uniting Church in Australia, Qld Synod is an extremely large organisation with many satellite businesses and activities ranging from private hospitals, to superannuation companies, to conference centres. One of these was an internet service provider and web hosting business named DoveNetQ. While in this role, I was responsible for the network and systems infrastructure of DoveNetQ and the Qld Synod Head Office. I supervised and trained a team of IT personnel and directed the daily infrastructure and Helpdesk operations.Also in this role, I oversaw the development of DoveNetQ from a small, dial-up internet provider to a profitable DSL provider. When the Church decided that it was time to sell DoveNetQ, I oversaw the transition for our customers.

While still at GDT Pty Ltd, I began offering businesses and home users computer consulting, and web design. I also operated as an iHug (an ISP who outsourced customer support to their partners) partner selling and providing support for dial-up internet services. In addition, almost half of my business involved the design and implementation of small business networks and custom PC sales and repair. Although it was successful and very enjoyable, I decided to close the business when I was offered a job that including the running of an ISP; a fantastic opportunity for both technical and personal development.

Whist in this role I designed, tested and built waste disposal machines; such as hydraulic bin lifts, compactors and bottle crushers. It was during the term of this role, while heavily relying on CAD software and supporting the companies Windows NT network and systems that I further developed my passion for Information Technology and ventured into the ICT industry for the first time opening my own consulting business.
