Minnesota First Time Home Buyers: There are many programs available to you as a first time home buyer in Minnesota. There are national programs such as FHA (Federal Housing Administration) which are designed around helping with lower down payment requirements as well as expanded parameters on credit issues. FHA is a program that many first time buyers use as a leg-up and way to get into their home. In addition to national programs there are state programs such as MHFA (Minnesota Housing Finance Agency). This agency works in conjunction with national programs such as FHA, VA, USDA, and conventional loans. Qualified home buyers like to work with programs offered through MHFA due to either preferred interest rates or entry cost assistance programs. I have worked extensively with MHFA and am honored to have be one of their Platinum Lenders each year since 2012. Entry cost assistance (more commonly known as down payment assistance), is useful to buyers to help come up with the funds necessary not only for the down payment on their new home but to help offset their closing costs as well. There is a wide variety of entry cost assistance programs available through MHFA. There are, of course, many qualifying factors to each program and I help buyers navigate through the maze to find the program that is most suitable to their needs.In addition to National and State programs there are many local community entry cost assistance programs as well.
